Purpose:
A 10-week introduction course that prepares students and community members to develop,
create content, and produce podcast episodes to inform the community of current local events as
a method to get students civically engaged and build on their knowledge of media and
communications skills.
Breakdown of details:
Podcasts offer a highly accessible format that can help you present, promote and more broadly
disseminate your research or explore other topics of interest for the community. This 12-week
workshop will provide conceptual and hands-on experience for participants to realize their
podcast ideas, from learning to develop a concept, recording themselves and interview partners,
and completing all necessary audio post-production. Participants receive feedback and critique
from the instructor and peers to develop and refine their projects at each completion stage.
The workshop will utilize a range of audio field recording equipment, a MacBook Pro Laptop,
Adobe Premier Pro editing software, and an RSS distribution platform. With this course, students
will be offered the tools that will allow them to create a podcast that engages their community
and makes a difference.
Instructor bio:
Known as “Mazara” to his close friends, Edwin Rosario is the CEO, founder, and producer of La
Sala Talks. This outlet seeks to explore and communicate a wide range of perspectives,
experiences, and opinions within Latinidad in all its complexities and contradictions.
From a young age, Edwin developed a passion for music and the arts; he was a percussionist for
merengue and salsa bands in New York before taking vocal training and private lessons with
some of the former teachers of the Harbor Conservatory for the Performing Arts. Later, he

worked at the Latin music division of BMG, which sharpened his skills in marketing the arts.
Additionally, he founded Spanglish Voces, a non-profit focused on community building through
the arts, such as writing, audio, and visual art.
His professional focus is critical thinking, social influence, and social behavior. He is passionate
about how the arts connect these three areas to create pathways that help us overcome the various
challenges in our lives and the world.
Currently, he is the Director of Communications and Public Relations at the New York State
Senate for the State Senator of the district he resides in the Washington Heights area of
Manhattan (NYC).
Edwin is a humanitarian and community activist who always seeks to provide a space that allows
a voice to the many. Outside of his professional pursuits, he enjoys reading, music, nature, and
good conversations with family and friends.
